Angel Biscuits

YIELD: 18 Biscuits

PREP TIME: 10 minutes   COOK TIME: 10-12 minutes  

TOTAL TIME: 20 minutes


  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup. warm water
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups barley flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter (or coconut oil, or canola margarine)
  • 2 cups buttermilk


  1. Preheat oven to 400°F​
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water
  3. In a large bowl, combine the all purpose flour, barley flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  4. Cut the butter (or alternative) into the flour mixture.
  5. Blend the buttermilk and the yeast.
  6. Combine the flour mixture and the yeast mixture.
  7. Drop the dough, one spoonful at a time onto the baking. sheet. 
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or. until lightly brown.
  9. Enjoy!


*Our favorite yeast is SAF yeast.

*You can use a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or mix by hand.
